Iran overnight showed off for the first time a new fighter jet said to be modelled on the American F-5 but built using domestic technology, state media reported. Iran has also developed another homemade war plane named “Saegheh” (Thunder), which it has described as similar to the American F-18 fighter jet.

Bat-inspired spy plane

That’s the Army’s concept, and it has awarded the University of Michigan College of Engineering a five-year, $10-million grant to help make it happen. A six-inch robotic spy plane modeled after a bat would gather visuals, sounds and smells in urban combat zones and transmit information back to a soldier in real time.
